Currently nowhere near ready for a second car purchase but I'm sort of lost as to which way to go. I'm stuck between choosing my first RWD vehicle or something AWD and practical. I really would love my first taste of V8 muscle in the form of a GTO
EDIT: Pic of GTO keeps getting Kinja'd so you will have to live with just seeing the Flex
or my AWD choice is a 2013+ Flex AWD non-ecoboost (exceeds budget)
I was mainly considering the Flex because I loved it's style and wanted AWD because I do live in an area that gets snow and black ice aplenty. Also it's rather practical and I'm now 25 the age when society says it's about time to think about settling down soon. I'm considering moving to warmer states where snow is pretty much an afterthought therefore RWD seems quite reasonable. For some reason I don't think people would take me as seriously and thing I'm as mature in a GTO.

RWD + Snow Tires

Get Both! Get the GTO for the summer and than some more practical less expense awd vehicle for the winter.

Why not get an XC70?

Honestly I have my winter beater Saturn for that. I guess my issue would be more of how I would be perceived. As a mature adult or as a grown kid. I sorta think the GTO is a nice compromise between all of the RWD coupes because it has rather sedated looks. Seems to be somewhat mature.

Would this be your second car? Or the second car you buy? If the latter, find a way to buy the AWD you want, if the former, buy the cheapest RWD V8 you can get and thrash it like there's no tomorrow. :)

When in doubt consult top gear
I am at a kind of not really similar problem but its what RWD v8 do i want, but mine is ether swap a V8 in my Camaro or look for another American (GM) V8.

I rented a Flex to go skiing with some people once and it was not only really comfortable and spacious, it did really well in the heavy snow conditions that year.

Already have my little Saturn to toss around. Was just concerned moreso about general perception. Which would look better to the ladies I guess. Man I really don't know what's going on. It's like as soon as I hit 25 it felt like I had to push fun away and make more "responsible" decisions.
![]() 02/13/2015 at 14:50 |

You're 25; allow yourself to be forced into responsible decisions, don't preemptively make them. Budgeting properly, going to the doctor, paying bills on time, etc. is one level, but just preemptively getting boring cars isn't any more responsible, it's just boring. You only get this time in your life once.

Prefer the bold looks of the Flex. Also repairs would be cheaper. That's about all. MAYBE I'll put it into consideration.

I have a 95 Saturn for a winter beater. Want a car that's up to date and with leather. Never had leather or anything more than 140hp. Wanna try something new.

I wouldn't worry about that. Don't mod it visually and you'll be fine.

Fuck that, I'm 25 as well, now is the time to buy a fun car because once kids come along your gonna have to get rid of the fun cars and make way for some boring shitbox for the kids. And the GTO will probably get you more leg than the Saturn. I would say get the GTO and experience it than sell it after a year or so and get something more practical, you will only be young once.

A Flex or a GTO. Please share your drugs. Then buy the GTO.

Never driven a Flex if I'm honest, but they do look great. I'm guessing a MB 4matic is not something you'd consider?

What year is your Camaro? I kinda love the Challenger but they hold their value far too well in R/T trim with a manual.

General perception? The Ladies? Get a Jag. Seriously, if that's what you're going for it'll rock folks worlds and you can get a relatively recent low miles one for the same as an AWD Flex.
Here's the first one that popped up but there's tons of gems out there in that price range in pristine condition.

Go a little older if you can't wrench and are worried about repair costs.

Nope. Never been much of an MB person. I want something that won't break my pockets in repairs.

:) I'd say the Flex looks great though. Sorry I can't help you mate.

Thanks definitely some sound reasoning here. Funny thing is I wasn't considering this RWD V8 thing until my dad hit his mid-life crisis. He'll be 50 this year and is seriously thinking about getting a 'Vette. I just think it'd be fun to do some Father and Son burnouts or go to some car shows cruising around with V8 rumbles.

Haha guess that's true. I'm still single with no kids so might as well take advantage of the opportunity. What do you drive currently? Also I'm certain it will get me more leg. Chicks seem to dig fast cars. Think it would get more attention than the Flex though?

My drugs are far to strong for you padawan.

Its a 98 T-top (the catfish years lol). First car i ever bought so has sentimental value so its probably getting a V8 but i would love a GTO. My big thing is all the weight with the new cars. The new Challenger and Camaro look amazing but at 2 tons they are a bit bloated. I mean mine is no where near light at 3300 and the GTO at 3700 but at 4100+ just seems like alot, though most is crash and safety protection, and the Camaro is on a dated frame so

I have a 2001 Grand prix that I have had since high school! I have about 217,000 miles so it doesn't get me chicks anymore. My panty dropper is my 09 Triumph Daytona 675, I made a decision a couple years ago to get a bike instead of a new car and so far is has paid off, but my grand prix is getting really wore out so I will probably have to sell the bike and get some sort of car.

I'm also 25 and had a Saturn for practical reasons. Also wanted something with leather and some pace so I got a Legacy GT. I still think you should go with the GTO

Ahhh. Whatever I get shall be car #7 for me lol. I seem to get one every year. I used to be nothing but a Ford guy when but I've grown up and realized that for the most part Chevy always comes and outguns the Ford especially back during the 90s. The Mustangs were regularly getting their but kicked by GM. I like the GTO because it falls into my budget, is a sleeper and the build quality is great. Our American muscle is just starting to catch up with the interior quality of this car. For your car might as well drop the V8 in. It'll be loads cheaper and that generation of Camaro still looks good today.

I was considering getting a bike before. Then I realized that at the age I wanted it I would've killed myself from going to fast. The adrenaline would've been too addictive. I wanted a Harley Night Rod

And when I get into your situation I'm definitely getting a Flex. I believe I commented on your post. You're making a good move with that decision. Very stylish, comfortable and quiet. The fact that it's spacious goes without being said.

The adrenaline is very intoxicating. I almost had my bike impounded because apparently cops don't like it to much when you are speeding and you say the reason for speeding was because of the adrenaline rush it gives you. After that happened I make sure and look for the police before bringing it up to 15,000 rpm in town.

Yeah now the Aston grilles are coming back lol. But same im on my 6th now and currently still have 3 of them. Always been GM/honda guy (more GM) and i have only like one mustang but that was just because the body kit (cobra R).
The GTOs now are very reasonable for the car you get and what it could be. LS2, 400hp, 6 speed, and LS aftermarket market. The interior is 10x better than mine, amazing what the aussies can build, the only thing i dont like is the weird green LED below the gauges.
The only thing is i just saw the profile of the new Camaro..... the want is very high
